Herriot Fine, by Juniper Moon
Folks have been asking us for a fingering weight alpaca, and we've found a great one in Herriot Fine, by Juniper Moon.
It takes the super-soft, warm, baby alpaca content of its bigger sister Herriot and adds some nylon, making the slender yarn stronger and more durable. Herriot Fine has the drape and “halo” you would hope for in an alpaca yarn, as well as being surprisingly warm for a yarn so thin. The colors are dyed in both earthy naturals and in gentle, woodsy heathers. |
Below is the Otoño Shawl, a pattern designed specially for Herriot Fine by Pamela Wynne.
On the left is the version we have in store here at Argyle, a present to us from Juniper Moon.
On the right are three photos of the designer's own version.
Otoño is a large triangular shawl worked from the top down. Each block of color uses a different stitch pattern, beginning with stockinette. The second block of color is charted lace, while the third block is a simple 2-row mesh pattern. A pretty 2-row simple lace border pattern and a picot bind-off add a delicate finish.

Here's a striking colorwork hat our own Kate made with Herriot Fine using the pattern "Picot Hem Stranded Snowflake Hat."
It's a small enough gauge to really see all of those complex little stitches, but the alpaca makes it warm enough to wear even in the snow.

Below, the design team from Juniper Moon has put together these chic patterns:
In the Gallium knee socks, you can see how the nylon content of the yarn not only adds strength, but it gives enough elasticity to make sure your socks will actually stay up!
Also shown are the Compass tam and mittens, the Clematis cardigan, and the Hedera "Smoke Ring" cowl.
