Summer Silk, by Berroco
We're getting back into action over here with our first post of the spring! Argyle's recently got in so many new yarns for spring weather, but for our first feature of the season we've chosen Summer Silk, by Berroco. This is a brand new one for them, and our guests have not been able to stop touching it. This is one of those rare yarns that feels just as soft in the skein as it does in the garment. A summer-y blend of cotton and silk, this chainette yarn is incredibly soft to the touch. It's the perfect choice for garment or accessory projects. It's made of equal portions silk and cotton. The silk gives it that incredible feel and a depth of color, and the cotton keeps it cool and breathable and lends it drape. For folks who have reservations about the unyielding nature of some cotton blends, there's good news: Summer Silk has a touch of nylon in it to make it pleasant and forgiving on the hands to work with. |
Here's the newest sample we've got right here in Argyle, made from Summer Silk. When you visit the store you'll have a chance to feel for yourself how delicious it is to touch. It's the "Grenache" shawl, which is also pictured above. Wrap yourself in a little luxury! This oversized triangular shawl knitting pattern features an easy to memorize lace knitting pattern. Its softness is actually inspiring folks to think outside the box with their projects. Normally you might not think of a hand-wash silk yarn for a baby project, but after feeling it many people have imagined how gentle it must feel against an infant's skin. |
Below are a few patterns from Berroco's own design team made just for Summer Silk:
First is the Airen. A unique construction gives this crescent shawl knitting pattern incredible drape and shape. Designed to sit perfectly on your shoulders, this ethereal shrug is simple to knit and delightful to wear.
Next up is the Maccabeau. This simple oversized tee is worked first side to side, forming the sleeves and yoke in a lovely cable and lace pattern. Stitches are then picked up for the body and knit down, making the length easily adjustable.

At left is the Chenin. This romantic summer cardigan is knit seamlessly from start to finish. Beginning at the back neck, the cardigan flows into the simple lace panels at the fronts. The sleeves are picked up from the armholes and worked to the cuffs, before the edging bands are picked up to form the buttonhole and button bands.
And at right, for when you love to wear hats but want both a yarn and a pattern that will give you relief from heat, there's the Semillon. A cable and eyelet stitch pattern is worked all over this simple knitted hat.
