Beginning Knitting Class
|
Thinking about learning how to knit? Welcome!
In this two-part workshop we will go over the basics of knitting. By the end, you will know how to knit a scarf or baby blanket by yourself with confidence! In the first session you will learn how properly hold the knitting needles and how to loop the first row of stitches onto the needles, which is known as "casting on." Then you will learn the first of two fundamental stitches, which is simply called the "knit stitch." Your patient instructor Kate will make sure there is plenty of repetition so you feel confident each step of the way. After a week of practice at home you'll return to learn the "purl stitch" and how it works in combination with the knit stitch. Enjoy learning about the history of knitting, the types of wood and metal needles, and of the variety of yarns, fibers, and dye techniques while you work. At the end you'll learn how to release your knitting from your needles - The cast off! Never picked up needles before, left- or right-handed, Kate will give you the skills to start knitting beautiful pieces of your own! Sessions:
First two Thursdays of every month: 6:00 - 8:00 PM Class duration: Two 2-hour session with a week inbetween. Students will buy supplies for class with a 10% discount. This workshop is $100 Note: No classes in July or August Register online here |

Open Forum Knitting Class
|
Do you know how to cast on and do the knit and purl stitches and are ready to take the next step to broaden your skills? Have you taken on a pattern that’s difficult for you and would love to have a patient expert at your side to make sense of it all and put you on the road to success? Always wanted to master sophisticated stitches like brioche knitting or stranded colorwork but not sure where to start? Then the Open Forum is for you! It’s a two hour, semi-private lesson (never more than three others) where each student can choose a different challenge they want to focus on that day. Knitters of all skill levels–from those who’ve just completed our Beginning Knitting Workshop to folks who have been building their skills for years–have benefitted from instructor Kate Rose’s expertise! Here are a sample of skills students have learned in Open Forum:
We ask students to please decide which pattern or skill they'd like to work on before they show up. Kate will be very happy to help you pick a pattern in the days leading up to your class. If you have signed up for an Open Forum Class and would like Kate to help you narrow the pattern options down, just send us an email at argyleyarnshop@gmail.com Sessions:
Saturdays: 9:30 - 11:30 AM Sundays: 9:30 - 11:30 AM NOTE: No Classes in July and August Class duration: One 2-hour session. Students may bring any supplies from home or buy them for class with a 10% discount. This class is $50 Register online here |
