Meet Neighborhood Fiber Co. founder Karida Collins !
| Join Neighborhood Fiber Co. founder Karida Collins at Argyle! We're delighted to announce that Karida Collins will be teaching not one but two different workshopswith us! Plus, after the classes are done, we will be opening our doors for a Neighborhood Fiber Co. "trunk show" so that everyone can get a chance to meet with this talented dyer! The first workshop is "Color Confidence: Theory and Practice Meet Style" Friday, June 21st from 6 to 8 PM. The second workshop is "Making the Most of Hand Dyed Yarns" Saturday, June 22nd from 10 AM to 12 PM. The meet-and-greet is on Saturday, June 22nd from 1 PM to 3 PM. Check out the class descriptions below, and if you'd like to come to the free meet-and-greet with Karida, please just RSVP right here. New workshop: Color Confidence: Theory and Practice Meet Style Do you struggle with putting together color combos for patterns with multiple colors? Have you knit multicolored projects that have left you disappointed? Do you wish that your color choices looked as stunning as the pattern samples? This class will explain color theory in an accessible way to help knitters (and crocheters!) understand what makes certain color combinations leave everyone amazed and others disappoint. We'll also explore which combos work well with which techniques. For instance, what looks good in blocks of color may not work for stranded colorwork. Bring to class: one or more of your own examples of finished objects combining multiple colors that you like (or don't like!) and any patterns for which you want help selecting colors. Friday, 6/21, 6:00-8:00 PM. Class fee: $50 Skill level: Beginner and up. Register for this class right here. New workshop: Making the Most of Hand Dyed Yarns Are you attracted to the many types of multicolored yarns available from hand-dyers but uncertain about how to use them? This class will teach you everything you ever wanted to know about how to make sure your hand dyed yarns look as good in your project as they do in the skein. You'll learn about the different methods by which yarns are hand dyed and how the resulting yarns look when knit. I will discuss the different techniques used by Neighborhood Fiber Co. Finally, we'll consider samples knit and crocheted in different hand dyed yarns and explore some stitch patterns that work for each of them. Bring to class: hand-dyed yarn that you like for class discussion. Saturday 6/22, 10:00 AM-12:00 PM. Class fee: $50 Skills level: Beginner and up Register for this class right here. Meet Karida Collins at a Neighborhood Fiber Co. trunk show! A trunk show is many things: It's a chance to meet the dyer behind one of your favorite yarn companies and get a chance to ask her any questions you have about the creative process. Plus, Karida will be bringing different yarns and different colors to show you that we've never seen before here at Argyle (and yes, if you fall in love with one of them they will be available for purchase!) This is also a great opportunity for you to let us know which of these undiscovered beauties you would like us offer right here in Brooklyn. Saturday, 6/22, 1:00-3:00 PM It's free to attend, please just RSVP right here! Neighborhood Fiber Co. - You've really got to see this yarn! Dyed with love in a historic firehouse in downtown Baltimore, these breathtaking skeins will put a smile on your face as soon as you see them. Founder Karida Collins and her team have captured a joyful spirit with her elegant variegations and rich, jewel tone semi solids. Each of the colors are named after a different neighborhood in Baltimore and in their former home in D.C. They even have a collection of colors named after Baltimore artists! As Karida puts it: "I think that people don't necessarily associate cities with beauty and bright colors. You think of gray tall buildings, sidewalks and streets. And I wanted to really highlight the beauty that you can find in a city, in an urban environment, by naming all of these bright, vibrant colors after neighborhoods." | Check out Studio Worsted: Ernest Shaw Stephen Towns Cedonia Nekst Studio DK Rosemont Butcher's Hill Studio Sock Banksy Joyce Scott David Hess Park Heights Loft Rock Creek Park Sandy Point Mt Vernon |
