Rasta, by Malabrigo
Rasta from Malabrigo is a lightly-fulled single-ply yarn of epic proportions! Whip out a super-cozy accessory in just hours with this super-sized delight of a yarn. This premium Uruguayan merino is just as soft as ever, and Rasta comes in a range of Malabrigo's unique “watercolor multi” colorways as well as a rainbow of semi-solid basics. Unbelievably squishy, this is the yarn to turn to when you want the ultimate in warmth (or the ultimate in speed!) Malabrigo is a family-owned yarn company located in Uruguay and they have developed a line of hand-dyed yarns of more than 300 wonderful color variations which are inspired by nature, landscapes, places, art and everyday life. |
We here at Argyle have knitted several projects out of Rasta. Here's just two of them below:
On the left is the Vermonter, a classic vintage-style ski cap complete with a pom pom. It glows intensely here in the fiery color Archangel.
And on the right is the Gaptastic, a cowl knit in the round so as to leave it seamless. It's just a basic seed stitch, so it's been very popular with beginners who are looking to practice their alternations from knit to purl. This is the color Indiecita, such a beautiful aquatic color reminiscent of Monet's lily pad paintings.

Let's say you owned a yarn store in Brooklyn. Let's say you wanted to do a blog post about Rasta. Let's say you wanted to use Malabrigo's own photographs of that yarn to feature it. What if I told you Malabrigo has published a book that is literally called (and I kid you not!): Rasta in Brooklyn. |
Below we've got photos of garments from that publication by Malabrigo's own guest designers from the pattern book "Rasta in Brooklyn."
For folks less familiar with Brooklyn, all of these patterns are named after local neighborhoods.
From left is the Park Slope eyelet sweater with its matching scarf, in the color Porrinho.
Following is the Williamsburg, a cabled poncho in the color Lotus.
Next, the Cobble Hill, an incredibly warm pullover made from two strand of Rasta held together, shown here in the color Natural.
And we've got to include the Windsor Terrace. (That's the neighborhood that Argyle Yarn Shop is in!) It's a rolled-brim herringbone hat in the color Quegay.

Here's some more from the same volume: First is the Dumbo, a brick stitch cowl. The blue is the color Azules and the bright one is Archangel.
The ribbed hat with the pom pom is the Bushwick, in the colors Azul Profundo and Sunset.
Gowanus is the cabled pullover in the cowl neck below, in the color Pagoda.
Lastly is a turtleneck capelet called the Columbia Waterfront. It's in the color Whale's Road, with the collar in the color Purple Mystery.
