Let's party with Stephen West in Brooklyn!
| Party time! Westknits Starflake Mystery Shawl KAL cast on party, right here in Brooklyn!  We're super excited about this upcoming event, and it's going to be a big one! Stephen West is celebrating the 10th anniversary edition of the Westknits Mystery Shawl Knit Along, and guess where he's chosen to hold the cast on party? Right here in Brooklyn, New York! Argyle Yarn Shop and Brooklyn General Store have joined forces again to cohost a big bash of a party on the day the first clue is released, Friday, October 4th! There will be free drinks and charcuterie, a pop-up yarn shop, an interview with Stephen by the effervescent Brini Maxwell, a chance to win prizes from our wonderful sponsors, and of course sitting down together to cast on the newest Knit-Along with the amazing, animating inspiration of Stephen West!  The party will be at The Invisible Dog, a space used for exhibitions, performances and public events featuring visual artists, performers and curators from around the world.  The evening will begin at 6:00 with complimentary wine and specialty cocktails, such as the Violet Cosmopolitan and spiced mulled cider, along with delicious house-made (nonalcoholic) aguas frescas.  Help yourself to some light refreshments, grab a drink, and check out The Invisible Dog's airy back patio.  As the evening gets going, check out Argyle Yarn Shop and Brooklyn General Store's pop-up shop right there in the event space, featuring skeins for sale from Neighborhood Fiber Co., Qing Fibre, La Bien Aimée, and more!  Then, grab a seat as Stephen West leads us in a presentation of the Starflake Mystery Shawl KAL itself! (Is that the Starflake pictured above? Nope! Starflake is a mystery!) A knit-along (KAL) is when a community of knitters decides to all work on the same project at the same time, helping, teaching, and encouraging each other as they go. In a mystery KAL, the knitting pattern is broken down in "clues." Clues are small sections of the pattern released one at a time on a set schedule, and the participants do not even know what they are knitting while they work the clue (i.e. there are no photos). But with a talent like Stephen West you know it's going to be gorgeous! This year is going to be a beautifully bold and graphic shawl to celebrate ten years of Westknits mystery shawls.  Next, join Stephen for a really fun, lighthearted and inspirational interview with Brini Maxwell of the popular weekly nightclub knitting party "Knit at Nite!" "Homemaking empress" Brini holds court every Tuesday night in Manhattan's East Village hot spot Club Cumming Cabaret. Here's Esther getting a taste of the limelight with the ebullient Brini herself! We can't wait to hear what inventive and congenial questions Brini has for Stephen!  And then, we'll sit down together to cast on the first clue of the Starflake Mystery KAL, under the direction and inspiration of Stephen West! Come knit with us! Westknits Bestknits 3: Shawl Evolution contains thirteen shawl patterns that represent the colorful and evolving Westknits style.  Seven previously published shawls are accompanied by six new designs ranging from crisp, clean, and geometric lines evolving into more splashy displays of color and fluffy textures.  The six new designs elaborate on techniques like slipped stitches, short row wedges, large yarn over holes, & brioche stitch.
